Description: Mintage: 198,820. 1874 represents the first of the common latter-date gold dollars, as these were struck in relatively low numbers, but saved at a disproportionately high rate of survival. Many come prooflike, but this particular later die-state example features exquisite, swirling tortoise-shell luster within the obverse fields, and simply delightful multi-hued rolling texture on the reverse.
