Description: As a date in the Seated Liberty half-dollar series, 1880 has a famous reputation for prooflike circulation-strike coins that frequently exceed the cameo quality of proof examples, and it can be quite difficult to distinguish between the formats. That being said, examining the extreme edge shows the carefully squared-off rims that would ascribe a proof, and indeed, a delicate fin of metal around the extreme edge that speaks to tremendous striking pressure. NGC has not quite seen fit to assign full gem grade, but for sure, this is a stunning jewel that features terrific contrast and outrageously sharp definition.
