Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1825 NGC AU details/improperly cleaned
Lot Number: 474
Description: B-2 is the so-called "5/3", although as explained in Tom Stevens Collection, excellent Early United States Quarters 1796 - 1838, it is in fact a later die-state of the "5/4/2" obverse. NGC claims this AU example has been improperly cleaned, but aside from some underlying field reflectivity, the evidence isn't obvious. Indeed, substantial patina lays over each side and gives something of an original appearance. For sure, both sides display at most ten points of wear, and a couple of marks or so beneath the eagle's neck appear to be the only points of contact.
