Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1872 PCGS MS-62
Lot Number: 205
Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. Mintage: 1000. The absurdly low emission for circulation of the 1872 trime (like that of all the late dates) makes it nearly impossible to overstate the rarity of a mint-state piece. Were this series collected more avidly, this would be an incredibly expensive coin. As it is, the PCGS MS-62 grade seems to understate the inherent aesthetic appeal due to the deeply saturated emerald-blue toning that dominates both sides. Although somewhat prooflike in appearance, as would be expected from such a limited production run, trivial striking weakness will inevitably be noted for a few of the reverse stars, affirming the correct mint-state designation.
