Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1831 NGC MS-64 PL
Lot Number: 778
Description: JR-2. When found certified with a "prooflike" designation, JR-2 is a good starting guess for attribution since the die-marriage struck true proofs, and also multiple known prooflike examples that are distinguishable from true specimen character mostly by the lack of perfect sharpness. While fairly well detailed, this example has flatness throughout hair curls that resulted from a single strike -- more careful striking as for a proof could have perfected the finest detailing. Further, the dies clashed prior to striking. In addition to the somewhat mirrored surface, fields contrast nicely with the whisper-light cameo frost seen decorating the portraits.
