About the images

Lot Title:	1893-S AU details/cleaned
Lot Number:	637
Description:	VAM-2, mintmark tilted right. Cataloger's grade: [AU/cleaned]. While the obverse was a little flatly struck, the eagle's breast feathers remain prominently delineated and nicely rounded -- one might assess details as AU-50/55, obverse/reverse. While it is possible the strike produced semi-prooflike reflectivity within the fields, as is occasionally seen for 1893-S, cleaning has certainly emphasized glossy texture throughout, leaving behind trace luster at the obverse periphery and unexpectedly lively, spinning cartwheel effect on the reverse. Three to four noticeable, dull linear handling marks smack directly upon the cheek joined by a couple more on the eagle's breast, and in aggregate, these are the only notable abrasions.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, CACG, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
