Lot Title: 1879-CC GSA CACG MS-64+
Lot Number: 548
Description: VAM-5. Dispensing with formalities, the GSA slab comes to its new owner with the original paper insert intact showing SN 79001303. The box is included as well although the lid has separated from the primary box, and better yet, the consignor kept these housed in USPS shipping box postmarked APR 8 1974 (delivered 4/10 -- clearly, Registered first class mail moved a lot faster fifty years ago). An utterly radiant example with familiar indications of semi-prooflike character, the fields have avoided most noticeable abrasions, while a few very shallow scrapes are less obtrusive than their unfairly magnified presence might suggest. Typical whisper-light roll friction caresses the cheek. The coin is quite simply graded perfectly at the very choice grade level, irrespective of pluses and minuses. Gorgeous ivory-white patina endows the entire surface and assures the viewer of originality besides that conferred by long enclosure in the famous GSA slab. In the big scheme of things, 1879-CC substantially trails the 1889-CC as the second Carson City key to the series, but when found still in the GSA holder (i.e. not mercilessly smashed out to be encapsulated in a modern slab), it becomes marvelously desirable and the cataloger fully expects the final bid to exceed our high estimate.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, CACG, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
