Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1813 NGC MS-61
Lot Number: 413
Description: Bass-Dannreuther-1. Sharing an obverse with the much scarcer BD-2, the reverse distinguishes the two varieties, in this case with the first "T" in STATES centered over "L" in the scroll below. Neither side displays clashmarks or die cracks, suggesting early dies, and for a series that often sees detracting adjustment marks, those seen here are isolated only to the extreme fringe of the obverse, distracting not at all from frosty golden eye-appeal. A very good strike and reasonable luster will appeal to type collectors who do not wish to invest the cost of a new car into the type, but who still want to enjoy the maximum possible sharpness. The lowest curl shows trivial merging due to a slightly uneven strike, while lovely delineation otherwise dominates the design. Gold production in 1813 was dedicated solely to the half-eagle making this coin a highly appealing choice for type purposes.
