Somewhat flashy within the fields, most of the low-population 1849 quarter-eagles have what appears to be an overdate, but current thinking is that a small die defect at the "9" is responsible. The surface appears somewhat abraded, as befits the grade, and trivial rim nicks left and right on the obverse are notable.
