Description: Another example of the monument series of silver rubles of 19th-century Russia, this 1859 issue was struck under Alexander II to commemorate the opening of the Monument to Nicholas I, his predecessor. A few toning, wear areas and other adhesions to the obverse are almost lost in the silvery luster. The reverse is even more aggressively reflective, with just a few specks of debris noticeable. (JS)
