Description: The death of Catherine I (the Great) thrust her nephew, Peter III, to the throne. He would not last long, reigning for but 186 days, before being overthrown by his wife and soon dying under mysterious circumstances. This ½ ruble (or poltina) is the perfect artifact to encapsulate his murky, but notable reign. Battleship gray surfaces forgive the obverse wear, though bursts of reflectivity are prominent on both sides. (JS)
