Description: The Opa Collection. Mintage: 379,100. 16 graded MS-63, 29 higher at PCGS. Civil War half-dollars from Philadelphia seem to have filled the need for bank reserves, limiting production while simultaneously perhaps increasing the supply of better grade examples by a bit. Certainly this decisively detailed example, including strike doubling throughout the reverse periphery, deserves accolades for being well preserved while satiny luster shimmers beneath a fragile layer of beige-bronze patina. Delicate surface grazes occasion the right field while overall, bagmarks are less obvious than expected of MS-63.
