Lot Title: 1915-D Struck With Broken Obverse Die, PCGS MS-64 CACCAC
Lot Number: 811
Description: Medium intensity Arctic-blue patina gathers in some lovely magenta-orange accents atop high relief areas of the design. Utterly extraordinary is the extent to which the obverse die shows a substantial broken area at upper left. At some point, this area may have broken away to create a massive cud; the cataloger is well-tempted to call this a "retained cud" example. A smaller rim cud also rests at 8:00 and there could be others; get this coin out of this edge-obscuring slab pronto! Being not particularly gifted in numismatic study, the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award is intended here to draw attention to a special nickel well worth the trouble of review by a specialist. Astonishing!
