Lot Title: 1878 7TF Reverse of 1878 PCGS MS-65DMPL
Lot Number: 584
Description: 18 graded MS-65 DMPL, 2 higher at PCGS. Cameo proof examples exist of this famous seven-tail feathers variety, but it's tough to imagine they could be much nicer than this astonishing cameo example. It yields a dead-on impression of a proof except for extensive repolishing of the dies that caused portions of the nose, eye-socket and low-relief areas of the hair curls to distort and disappear. Nevertheless, strike quality also borders upon what one might expect of a specially struck example, showing trivial weakness over the ear. All this being said, handling and storage of the coin were not like the care taken for proofs since some delicate abrasions pepper all four major fields. An incredible coin that will rapidly assert itself as a premier trophy in anyone's Morgan dollar collection.
