Description: Paisley Brayden Hunter Collection. Possibly a mint-state coin in the days before certification, NGC's AU-58 calls proper attention to finger friction and very faint rub in both obverse fields. Both sides still relish in swirling, aggressive luster, albeit off of rather heavily refinished dies that could no longer bring up perfect detail. While struck to the tune of nearly a million pieces, 1870-S becomes quite scarce at true mint-state levels, as do many contemporary double-eagles.
