Description: B.E. Consignment. 1 graded MS-67, the sole finest known at any reputable grading service (including CAC). While known as a common date at most any grade, the 1871 like nearly any other date in the series becomes rare at or above the gem grade level, but as has been alluded, this phenomenal example ranks as the sole finest example certified. While not at all prooflike -- in fact, both sides display absolutely mesmerizing cartwheel luster over marvelously frosted surfaces -- the major devices are textured more a whisker more heavily than the surrounding fields, creating an impression of cameo contrast. Nary a hint of toning visits either side, although the surfaces have splendidly mellowed into classic, faint almond-gold hues. Exquisitely sharp overall, showing extremely faint weakness at Liberty's head and over the eagle's left (observed) talon.
