Lot Title: 1936 York PCGS MS-67+
Lot Number: 968
Description: 76 graded MS-67+, 51 higher at PCGS. The Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award readily applies to this phenomenally original and attractive York half-dollar, which has earned an almost too-low MS-67+ grade at PCGS. While not truly a grade-rarity even at this level, most seem to have been dipped over the years, resulting in an abundance of white examples, but this beauty has escaped that fate. Instead, both sides retain the full complement of colorful appeal referred to as "tab toning" by enthusiasts of the commemorative series. Sunrise gold, magenta-orange and tomato-red shimmer over the obverse right, contrasting wonderfully with Arctic hues that predominate to the left. On the reverse, a wide ring of intermingled mauve, chartreuse-gold and midnight indigo travels around splashed toning toward the center. The effect is difficult to describe, but very easy to appreciate in person.
