Lot Title: 1909-S VDB Lincoln PCGS MS-63RD
Lot Number: 938
Description: With a "red" color designation, the 1909-S VDB offers a highly curious population report at PCGS: 63 graded MS-63 RD, 1016(!) graded MS-64 RD, 938 (!!) graded MS-65 RD, and 271 graded MS-66 RD. As befuddling as it may seem, PCGS claims 1909-S VDB is much rarer at MS-63 RD than any of 64 RD, 65 RD or 66 RD. Here is a stimulating example that features astonishing brick-orange surrounded by slightly deepening shades of gold. The numeric assessment almost seems too low at first glance but a careful examination reveals a couple of slightly lengthy linear abrasions on Lincoln's head.
