Description: Bert Davies Collection. VAM-4, clear CC. Whether one chooses to look at holder-induced toning as a positive or negative, it is apparent that such is what caused a path of bronze-orange color to evolve entirely around both sides, except where a flash of russet-indigo shows at the upper obverse. While fully frosted, completely non-prooflike and therefore likely taken off of later dies, the cataloger does not recall seeing a VAM-4 example designated as prooflike. Instead, intensely frosted luster gleams off the surface and shows off that attractive border toning.
