Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1916-D Mercury PCGS MS-65FB
Lot Number: 929
Description: The First Through Last Collection. 35 graded MS-65 FB, 36 higher at PCGS. Long ago given name-recognition as the key to the series, the 1916-D requires no introduction to collectors regarding its special place at the heart of any Mercury dime collector's efforts. As one of the finest extant, this is a sensational example that offers technically full mint luster, attenuated only slightly by some toast-gold and tin-grey patina, and a terrific, sharp strike. All three sets of bands on the reverse are wonderfully full and broadly struck, without even a hint of interruption by any marks. Occasionally, the 1916-D is found off of clashed dies or later die-state, but this appears to be a relatively early struck example, helping to explain the highly detailed devices.
