Description: Pat Carroll's Coinsignment. Mintage: 34,200. 357 graded AU-58, 170 higher at NGC. In mint-state grade, 1909-O takes top honors as the key to the series and can be prohibitively expensive for most collectors. An excellent alternative to consider would be a borderline AU-58 example like that offered here, combining virtually all of the qualities of MS-62 with the most delicate surface rub imaginable to produce a bargain in terms of the big picture. Not only does this coin appear UNC by virtue of full sharpness and excellent surface quality, but the only thing separating it from three times the cost is a whisper of surface friction and very few exceptionally minute circulation abrasions. A small purplish copper spot lays partly over "P" in PLURIBUS suspended above a microscopic rim ding that would aid in pedigree purposes should the coin ever end up in a mint-state holder.
