Description: Ms. Anna's Collection. Newcomb-17 (R.4) plain cords, medium letters. The Redbook has a separate listing for this major variety, but N-17 is much tougher to locate than the more common die-marriages, this an early die-state "A" with no obverse rim cud. For a market-graded large cent, NGC seemed almost a little conservative given the full flowline texture and utterly perfect caramel-brown patina. Perhaps the coin is a little too original for their tastes as it retains minute crumbles of green verdigris.
