Description: Bert Davies Collection. VAM-2 could almost be properly called an 1884/18 repunched date. The surface emits devastating eye-appeal on account of extraordinarily deep mirrors that exceed DMPL requirements. The cataloger was tempted to suggest a UDM possibility given at least five feet of reflectivity, but a very faint hint of luster buzzes through the fields upon closer inspection. Not only does the coin represent one of the very first dozen or so to fall off the dies, we can further infer a very early die state because all of the die cracks seen on later coins have not fully formed, especially beneath the date and above IBUS on the obverse.
