Lot Title: One Half Each of 1948 and 1949 Mint Sets

Description: Tobacco Road Collection. The consignor offers an interesting story about how her grandfather took two sets of 1948 and 1949 double mint sets and switched out half of each set's coins to produce hybrids. Unfortunately, the other set cannot be located so only this one, dedicated "for Douglas", is available. One glance suggests that they are, indeed, mint-set representatives and not "put-together" concoctions of recent origin. Key to these is the 1949-S half-dollar which offers exceptionally attractive rim toning. Curiously, both S-mint cents have acquired denim-blue and brown patina. A number of attractively toned examples among this twenty-eight coin lot.
