Lot Title: 1861 CSA Restrike half-dollar B-8002 NGC UNC details/cleaned
Lot Number: 94
Description: Breen-8002. Given that only four examples of the genuine CSA half-dollar exist, the best one can hope for is to obtain a high-quality example of the Scott restrike, which itself had only 500 examples produced. As many collectors know, these are struck on genuine 1861 half-dollars with the revers planed off and restruck against a relatively soft brass plank facing the obverse so as to minimize distortion of Liberty's motif. NGC states this example has been "cleaned", resulting in a somewhat dulled appearance beneath a plethora of light hairlines.
