Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1797 Reverse of 1797, Stems NGC AU details/environmental damage
Lot Number: 889
Description: Sheldon-130 can be collected by die-state as the obvious defect in the obverse left field grows in magnitude, to be joined by a couple of near-vertical die cracks in the obverse right field. While not an expert, and interpreting the substantially rough surfaces, the cataloger suggests this to be an extremely late die-state example. Every single one of the characteristics for Breen die-state V can be found, augmented by a somewhat remarkable planchet lamination bisecting the obverse left field. Implication is that the flan started out at a questionable level of quality and went downhill from there, now showing coarse roughness that nevertheless has been scoured and recolored with impressive skill.
