Lot Title: 1836/1836 (not on label) Lettered Edge O-108 NGC MS-61
Lot Number: 702
Description: Nicholas Jackson Collection. Overton-108, "1836/1336". One can safely assume no half-dollars were coined in 1336, yet O-108 often gets called an "overdate" because of a suspected three originally punched in where the "8" belongs in the date. For only MS-61, this is a fabulous example, replete with opulent tin-grey toning and brimming with original character. Indeed, the surface is so original that only minimal luster penetrates, undoubtedly holding back the grade. Almost no marks can be located, albeit that thick pile of crunchy patina might help to disguise it, and both sides are wonderfully struck -- a surefire recipe for inclusion as a Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award recipient.
