Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1812 NGC MS-61
Lot Number: 605
Description: Nicholas Jackson Collection. Overton-105a. The doubled denticle above the second "A" in AMERICA makes attribution a cinch. Turning to the obverse, a die crack crosses 18 in the date, then meanders up and right into the bottom of Liberty's portrait to suggest the middle stages of die use that Overton calls "a". The dies would continue to be overused and enlarge this crack on coins struck of even later die, although Overton did not prescribe a state "c" for O-105. Somewhat dusky lilac-grey toning has settled across nearly the entire obverse, leaving some cobalt accents near the edge. The reverse offers distinct coral-gold and lavender-blue color.
