Lot Title: 1913-S PCGS MS-63
Lot Number: 317
Description: The Blackhawk Collection. Mintage: 66,000. 31 graded MS-63, 22 higher at PCGS. Few twentieth-century gold coins garner the respect for rarity and elusiveness as does the 1913-S Indian gold eagle. While not excessively rare when found lightly circulated, choice mint-state examples are to be treasured. This example appears to be every bit of "choice" with regard to dusky, royal golden hue and powdery texture. Steely peppermint-grey flashes also show on some highpoints of the obverse and almost certainly result from long-ago roll friction, while carrot-orange splashes occasionally upon the reverse. Design elements feature well detailed intricacies, even at the eagle's shoulder, suggesting a better pressed example than is normally seen. Neither side has been excessively abraded, showing just the proper number of minute bagmarks to account for the grade level.
