Description: The Blackhawk Collection. 48 graded MS-65, 26 higher at PCGS. Incredibly, the grading services know of a pair of MS-68 examples for 1908-S, but unless one wishes to dig out a quarter million dollars for such a coin, look instead at this superior gem example, which is surely very nearly as nice at a more palatable financial level. Either side exhibits dazzling luster, unusual for the type and pronounced in vibrancy. The cataloger cannot recall a more accurately rendered example of any date, as this piece received tremendous sharpness from both dies, from middle to end of every single feather in the headdress. There really are no post-emission abrasions that could be motioned, although a strong lamp reveals trivial occasional hairlines.
