Lot Title: 1896 NGC MS-67
Lot Number: 162
Description: Rum'N'Cola Collection. Mintage: 19,070. 9 graded MS-67, 1 higher at NGC. A dazzling array of accolades pulls out all the stops with regard to eye-appeal for this near-incredible quarter-eagle. Find the strongest useful loupe that you can and place it on the surface, and it's still nigh impossible to discover even the tiniest of distractions, as the cataloger could not discover even a single abrasion worth noting. The impression appears to have been taken off of fresh, early dies that show no evidence of orange peel effect -- in fact, tiny, raised threadlike artifacts show on the cheek and imply a recently prepared die. Evidence of an extremely powerful strike can be inferred by the wire rim that shows on the reverse, and even the obverse rim has been mostly squared off during production. Truly a remarkable gold coin that deserves receipt of the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award.
