Description: Pick-2a. The Bahamas Government issued a series of denominations in the early twentieth century with similar motifs, consisting of a circle flanked by oval vignettes on the front, and two circles encompassing the text denomination on the back. This very difficult example of the 4-shilling emission offers what appears to be exceptionally original paper, replete with wall the wrinkles and crinkles expected of the grade. The 10-shilling examples are far rarer than this already-difficult denomination, making this a much more frequent selection for type.
