Description: The Crimson Collection. OC-1, doubled-die obverse with misplaced date. Obvious doubling shows at the shield, such that there are four lines instead of only three per vertical stripe. Remarkably, a misplaced "1" and "8" from the date also hide within the folds of Liberty's gown. The surface continues to gleam and glint to some extent in spite of seven points of wear, suggesting to the cataloger that the coin may have been semi-prooflike when struck. Brightly flashing halos still surround each of the stars.
