Lot Title: Roman Empire - AD 238-244 denarius - NGC MS
Lot Number: 106
Description: Thrace Collection. Roman Empire, Obverse: laureate and draped cuirassed bust of Gordian faces right, IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG. Rev: Securitas seated facing left, holding scepter and resting hand on head, SECVRITAS PVBLICA. A large and almost perfectly round flan received full legends and borders on both sides -- a highly desirable characteristic for any Roman piece. There could be no doubt about NGC's 5/5 assessment for strike, and the 4/5 assessment for surface quality takes into account isolated, microscopic roughness on the portrait. Absolutely beautiful and easily one of the nicest the cataloger has seen.
