Description: VAM-13, Hit List 40. To quote the VAM reference: "A barrage of over 30 gouges batter the reverse of this variety" and bidders are heartily invited to visit the reference materials for close-up views of the various nicks and bruises on the reverse die used to strike this coin. A shimmering white example, unimpeded luster thoroughly dominates both sides and creates a gorgeous presentation for the enthusiast. Strike quality appears to be about on-par for a typical 1888-S, which is to say, a touch of softness shows at the center of each side.
