Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1879 J-1617 $1 PCGS PR-60 (green label)
Lot Number: 507
Description: Judd-1617, the metric silver dollar attributed to William Barber. The design incorporate Liberty wearing a coronet bordered along the top edge by a string of pearls. The reverse elaborately spells out the attributes of the coin, stating "895.9 S. / 4.2 G. / 100 - C.", making the intended silver content plainly stated. This example may have been struck off of later dies as it offers essentially no cameo presence at all, and indeed, the fields are no more reflective than what would be seen on a typical Morgan dollar of the same era. While not as thickly hairlined as expected of the basal grade, some fleeting abrasions dart hither and thither when targeted by good illumination.
