Lot Title: 1859 J-236 half-dollar PCGS PR-65BN
Lot Number: 505
Description: Judd-236, the Anthony Paquet design for a proposed Seated Liberty series that would have lacked LIBERTY on the shield. A decade or so ago, J-236 was considered extremely rare, but the heated market through the beginning of the 2000s brought a number to market that reduced the rarity to R.5 - still "rare" yet still attainable by the specialist. PCGS calls this a "gem brown" example despite a fair number of delicate hairlines sweeping through the fields, but for the "BN" designation, the new owner will be greeted by noticeable, original reddish luster clinging to the periphery. A contact-free example of considerable appeal.
