Lot #: Go
Lot Title: (1842-50) 27 Gr, 21 Carats (Plain Edge) NGC MS-63
Lot Number: 503
Description:

Kagin-24 (R.3). 8 graded MS-63, three higher at NGC. A late die-state may be inferred by noticing the die crack above "ER." on the denomination side (NGC's "obverse"), and the distinction can be important since some coins struck from later dies lack a bit of detail. Not so here. On the contrary, this appears to be a very well struck example, replete with fully erupted lettering in all respects, as well as completely formed arms for the star. A number of minute raised dots indicate die rust, common for the type. In addition to the technical merits, the color appears unusually original, consisting of predominant mellow gold color along with succulent crimson-orange and subtle russet accents. The fields offer gentle reflectivity often seen for K-24. At the NGC grade of only MS-63, one simply cannot go wrong owning this beauty, and that puts a nice bow atop all of the reasons for the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award.
