Description: Maybe, Maybe Not Collection. 124 graded AU-58, 44 higher at PCGS. The population in AU-58 is worth noting since the much smaller population in UNC and better grades suggests a cluster of "slider" examples that have been tried for upgrade. That makes sense since the 1857 is quite elusive above the present AU-58, which CAC has declared to be premium quality even at that level. Given the beautiful, underlying carrot-gold and lime-green iridescence, the cataloger agrees, this being an exceptionally original example. As usual for antebellum gold, the surfaces display a fair number of light abrasions, including a subtle, delicate hairline across the cheek.
