Lot Title: 1904 Lewis & Clark $1 NGC MS-67 Star
Lot Number: 182
Description: 15 graded MS-67, 6 graded MS-67 "star", 3 higher at NGC. The date side represents Meriwether Lewis, and the other side William Clark, both captains of the famed 1804 expedition. But in recent memory, no example of the 1904 gold dollar that the cataloger has actually seen rises to the exquisite level of representation seen for this astonishing "superb gem" specimen. NGC obviously agrees, since the "star" denotes exceptional eye-appeal, a most obvious statement for this lustrous, clean and impeccable example. Faint, subtle ruby-gold accents enter into the fields, which themselves are unblemished and free from hard contact. One singular hairline descends into the field right of Clark's portrait, and likely ascertains the final grade.
