Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1879 PCGS MS-66
Lot Number: 472
Description: 271 graded MS-66, 76 higher at PCGS. One of the better-date early Philadelphia emissions, the population of 1879 has climbed substantially over the last few years, such that a coin that once had a "Trends" value of $5000 now registers for about a quarter of that retail amount today. But that is still a fair chunk of change, reflecting the elusiveness at the "very gem" grade level. The obverse shows considerable toning, almost certainly from storage at the end of a paper roll, as almond-gold, pumpkin, violet and crimson-teal make their presence known. The reverse displays brilliant, frosty white luster.
