Lot Title: 1878 7/8TF Weak VAM-44 Triple Blossom PCGS AU-53
Lot Number: 463
Description: The K.C. Collection. VAM-44, Top-100 has tripled blossoms in Liberty's head decorations, although the cataloger notes that it is actually easier to see tripling of the edges of the two leaves descending below the typically mentioned pickup point. The reverse die also struck VAM-33, which has five extra tail feathers, the rightmost of which is actually represented by doubling at its bottom end. Many specialists esteem the VAM-44 as the "number one dollar variety", yet despite the relative availability of 1878 silver dollars in high grade and the avid pursuit of this specific variety, it is almost never found in Choice BU condition, and heavy demand exists for even "about uncirculated" examples. Bone-white overall, this AU-53 representative offers little luster but may well have been somewhat reflective when struck,
