Lot Number: 687
Description: Overton-103 has to be one of the all-time easiest die-marriages to attribute as a huge die-break on the reverse, which actually made it into long-term production, instantly proclaims the Overton variety. Die-states are not really considered for O-103, perhaps because the dies clashed so many times that it would be nigh impossible to distinguish between states. For this particular example, the clashes have advanced substantially such that now, fish gills spread over the over the ear - themselves clashed multiple times, "S UNUM" appears in reverse text below the bust, and numerous irregular raised lines and aberrations propagate into the fields. Aside from all this intriguing action, NGC's AU-55 grade seems downright conservative, given the fact that both sides exhibit full, flowing luster right through the fields, interrupted perhaps only slightly on a few curls, with additional finger friction seen on the eagle's head and curving over the upper edge of the left (observed) wing. All these factors come together to produce a coin of exceptional charm, which explains why it qualifies for the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award.
