Lot Title: 1891-S PCGS MS-66
Lot Number: 454
Description: Captain Jack Collection. 106 graded MS-66, 29 higher at PCGS. Without question, this is a jaw-dropping, eye-rubbing supermodel silver dollar that has achieved something few 1891-S dollars can claim: it has exceeded the "gem" grade level (and deservedly so). This is an emission often seen well abraded, which obviously detracts from eye-appeal, but to the complete contrary, there are hardly any contact ticks at all to be found on either side. Liberty's cheek appears essentially perfect at normal viewing distance, and even close examination discovers only trivial, light abrasions, really nothing more than mere grazes upon the surface. Much of the appeal stems from an incredibly accurate strike, unusual for latter San Francisco dollars, as well as densely textured surface frost. To the casual collector, it would be easy to say "oh, just another blast white dollar", but the astute observer might quickly realize why this one earns a spot in the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award list. It's just one of those coins with untouchable appeal that's difficult to spell out in words, but easy to appreciate in person.
