Description: Type I / I. Silver content for the trade dollar was higher than that of a standard dollar, ensuring they would flow out of the country in large numbers. Fortunately, high-volume emissions like the 1876-S permitted some nicer pieces to be saved and handed down to collectors. A very good strike comprises one part of the appeal for this lustrous example, which features faint smoke-gold patina on the obverse and mostly brilliant white presence on the reverse. Minute abrasions stray into the fields and produce a few tiny nicks on Liberty's arm, accounting for the grade.
