Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1921 PCGS AU details/cleaned
Lot Number: 290
Description: Mintage: 528,200. The 1907 "extremely high relief", 1927-D and 1933 are the only issues scarcer than 1921, and it is instructive to note the high mintage of over half a million pieces. The issue was heavily melted to the extent that, between them today, PCGS and NGC have certified fewer than 200 in all grades. That being said, the 1921 is actually available in certified grades above AU more often than below.

Gold coins, when cleaned, can be a bit of a double-edged sword. If cleaned lightly enough, then the evidence may be virtually invisible since gold tones so slowly. On the other hand, due to the tendency to tone so very slowly, evidence of cleaning can take a long time to fade away. This 1921 Saint sort-of falls within the middle of these considerations. The hairlines are very faint without doubt, and the coin could almost pass for not being cleaned since a fair amount of color has returned, yet it will take quite a lot more time for the hairlines to entirely dissipate. A worthy, highly lustrous example that displays no other distractions aside from trivial abrasions from brief handling.
