Description: 6 graded MS-64+, 1 higher at PCGS. A high mintage of 2-million pieces belies the extreme rarity of gem examples of the 1880 eagle. PCGS and NGC recognize only three "gem" examples between them. That's a shame, too, because if all 1880 tens fell of the dies with this kind of luster and eye-appeal, it surely would have been a go-to issue for beautiful type examples. The obverse luster is simply too gorgeous to miss out on. Widely scattered, brief abrasions are all that affect the grade, since the strike is as well detailed as is possible for the era.
