Lot Title: 1917 Type 1 NGC MS-67 FH
Lot Number: 732
Description: Forest Park Collection II. 63 graded MS-67 FH, 3 higher at NGC. The 1917 type-1 Standing Liberty quarter is one member of a group of coveted type coins that are dependably found nice (think: 1938-D nickel, 1881-S dollar, 1939-D dime), as a majority are sharply struck and numerous gems have survived. However, at the "superb gem" level, even the mighty 1917 type-1 becomes very scarce, and the nearly outrageous, blistering white presence of this astonishing example sets it far ahead of nearly all competitors. Magnificent, opulent shimmering luster endows the surface with the most intense brilliance possible, to the extent that the die-polished obverse fields appear nearly semi-prooflike. Sharpness is unhesitatingly maximized by the dies, which call forth even the most delicate detail at the head and, of course, complete sculpting of the shield.
