Description: 108 graded MS-65, 50 higher at PCGS. Unheralded as an elusive and possibly semi-key entry into the Liberty nickel series, the 1887 is not at all easy to locate at the "gem" level, although the present example will prove irresistible to many collectors. Extensive, silky violet and crimson-grey suffuse the obverse, while the reverse is far more dynamic as it surrounds the pumpkin-yellow center with bright sky-blue and periwinkle accents. Slight softness shows in the curl just beneath the coronet, while the usual blurred definition appears at the left ear of corn.
