Lot Title: 1894 PCGS MS-64+ CACCAC
Lot Number: 417
Description: Ready To Retire Collection. 21 graded MS-64+, 32 higher at PCGS. 1894 has a tantalizingly low mintage of 110,972 pieces, second only to the 1893-S and exceeding the mintage of the king of the series by a mere 11%. The 1894 has a comparatively lower value merely because a surprising number managed to survive in mint-state, yet the fact remains that "gem" pieces - or "virtual gem" examples graded MS-64+ - remain rare and desirable. The satin sheen that emanates from this remarkably unscathed example produces much of the eye-appeal that will make it a popular target for today's audience. Fullness of strike couldn't quite reach perfection, given a tad of softness over Liberty's ear, and the feathers on the eagle's breast seem slightly shallow, although fully delineated. The reason PCGS declined to procure a full "gem" grade might be explained by the number of tiny abrasions on the lower neck, but Liberty's portrait sees merely slightly luster grazes, and no untoward injuries. Soft apricot-grey patina suffuses the entire surface.
